First Impressions
When I first saw these little Mozzie patches I thought how cute they were (I love smiley faces)!! The fact that they had different colours was also a bonus, and I like patches because they are easy to apply! The number of patches was a bonus too, because if I was using 1 a day, one packet would last 2+ months! With that the cost is less than $5 per month so I thought if they work well that will be a bonus!
How I Tested
We have always had a successful Mozzie breeding program on our acreage (natural selection at its finest) and I wanted to try a few different products to see how they affected the rate of attack. I figured if they worked at home, they would also work out camping.
The first test was a camp out on the weekend, out in the forest along a running creek, after we had torrential rainfall around the Sunshine Coast Qld region. The camp spots were still soggy from flooding, so we figured the insects were sure to follow.
I took out 1 Red patch - it was on top.. and applied it direct to skin on my upper arm. Then I just went about camping as usual. I didn't appear to be bitten by any mozzies, and some campers below us closer to the creek were complaining about the midges, so I can only assume at this point that they worked somewhat.
Pros and Cons
I know for me some of the issues with Mozzie repellents are that they smell to high heaven (and not always a good smell), often giving me a headache. Then there is the issue with patches falling off, or greasiness of lotions and sprays, and of course whether they actually work or not!
Pros:
+ Colourful (kids love this... and adults too)
+ Smiley Emoji's (keeping up with the online socials)
+ Easy to apply and actually stick to skin (am yet to test other items)
+ A soft pleasant fragrance, that was not overpowering
+ Didn't get bitten by Mozzies or Midges so can only assume it worked (in this scenario)
+ Price (at less than .14cents per patch)
+ DEET Free (non Toxic)
+ Lasted all night (that I tested)
+ No greasy residue
Cons:
- A resealable bag would be handy for storing, but I can easily use a ziplock bag
- I would probably need to do some more testing in different scenarios to maybe find more cons, but at this stage for me, they worked great!
The Final Score
So with the fact that we are always surrounded by mosquitos both outside and the sneaky ones that get inside, I feel I have the experience from trying multiple products to find the ones that work for me.
My score for the Natural Mosquito Patch Stickers - 72 Pack is a 8/10. I dropped the 2 points at this stage just for the packaging, and because products can always be improved, plus I have only done the one test... so I will update this post and scoring once I have experimented in a few more situations.
